Fur Kids Fosters:

Kitten/Cat short-and long-term foster parent

 

Function: These volunteers provide proper care for kittens/cats and/or adult community cats until positive outcomes can be arranged.

Core responsibilities: Very young kittens need intensive basic care — bottle-feeding every few hours along with frequent socialization sessions. Once the kittens are independent, the foster parent generally houses and cares for them, and provide care after they have been spayed or neutered. Adult cats will typically require medical care initially, such as administering prescribed medications, cleaning of wounds etc. Adult cats will also require frequent socialization. Both kittens and cats may require long-term fostering until adoption is completed. Basic needs such as food, water, clean litter and safe and loving environment in which to thrive.

For adult community cats requiring short-term foster care before being returned to their trapping location (e.g., while an injury heals), the care generally involves basic feeding, cleaning and administering any prescribed medicines.

In addition, several “behind the scenes” jobs are generally done by volunteers, including:

Completing bio’s for the animals and submitting frequent photo updates
Attending adoption events, or providing transportation to/from events
Cleaning traps and transporting animals to/from colony
Transporting animals to/from vet or clinic appointments
Participation in fundraising opportunities for Street Paws is optional, but encouraged

Puppy/Dog long-term foster parent

 

Function: These volunteers provide proper care for puppies/dogs until positive outcomes can be arranged.

TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) Volunteers

 

For TNR volunteer positions, there are several ways in which to help. TNR is a coordinated effort amongst a team of individuals that work together to ensure the safety and comfort of not only the animals being trapped, but also the safety of the volunteers.

Trapper

 

Function: These volunteers work closely with Street Paws staff to trap cats in target areas. They often work with veterinary clinics, too, transporting cats to and from clinic appointments.

Core responsibilities: Trapping community cats. Often, the same volunteers who trap the cats will transport them to and from clinic appointments, house them before and after surgery, and, finally, return the cats to their trapping location.

Return-to-field transporter

 

Function: These volunteers work closely with Street Paws staff (or appropriate shelter staff) to pick up community cats from the temporary shelter arrangements and return them to their trapping location.

Core responsibilities: Transport community cats as necessary and identify additional community cats in the vicinity of the return site (documenting and sharing information with Street Paws staff).

Overnight Care

 

Function: These volunteers work closely with the other members of the TNR group to provide the overnight accommodations before the spay/neuter and for 1-3 nights after the spay/neuter to ensure the animals are ready to be re-released into their communities.

Core responsibilities: General needs of the animals will be provided by these volunteers, a safe environment for the animal before and after clinic appointment and post-surgical care, such as food, water, clean litter, medication administration where required. These volunteers work closely with the Street Paws staff and TNR group members to coordinate transportation and release schedules. Often, the same volunteers who trap the cats will transport them to and from clinic appointments, house them before and after surgery, and, finally, return the cats to their trapping location

 

General Volunteers

 

Street Paws has a variety of volunteer needs in which to assist the animals we serve. If you have special skills that you feel would benefit Street Paws or the animals we serve, please contact us at info@streetpaws.org. A list of general needs is provided below:

Fundraising and events volunteer staff, grooming pets before adoption events, adoption event staff, transportation for a variety of needs (see transportation needs list below), photography, website management, contractors when we obtain a shelter, woodworking skills to build donation boxes and basic shelter for community animals, social media posting/sharing, donation collections, donation box collections, obtain items from our wish list, fostering, TNR staff, marketing, bookkeeping, volunteer coordinator, creative writing for newsletters, letter writing campaigns and communications, grant writers, assist in searching for donated land & a building, assist in sharing social media posts, seek out matching grants or matching donations, research opportunities to collect pet food, organization and cleaning of our storage facility.

Offsite adoption events such as Petsmart, Petsupermarket, Petco, Petsense. Assist at events with talking to potential adopters, set up and breakdown, transport to and from events, and coordinate events.

Transportation needs: If you have the ability to provide transportation for large cargo, such as a truck or a van, and would like to help, please contact us at info@streetpaws.org. We often need help with transport for TNR, food deliveries, foster pick-ups, storage pick-ups and deliveries, donation collection, shelter pick-ups.

Marketing and Social Media Manager (Volunteer)

 

Assist in developing and managing online and digital marketing campaigns. Track all online, email, and social media marketing activities. Develop new marketing initiatives to drive greater exposure to Street Paws. Creative writing and thinking skills are desired for newsletter creation, fundraising/events ideas. Works closely with the core Street Paws staff to identify needs and generate plans to drive exposure.

This position has a time commitment varying between 0-5 hours per week and averages approximately 1-2 hours per week. This position is designed so it can be held by individuals with other commitments.

Volunteer Accountant/CPA for 501(c)3 Organization

 

Street Paws seeks a volunteer CPA to assist with bookkeeping for a few hours a week to help with our growing and dynamic nonprofit. Growth of the program and a Volunteer only environment requires that we seek specialty skills to assist to sustain growth. The CPA will work directly with the Board of Directors. Knowledge of Quickbooks a plus as is experience with nonprofit organization bookkeeping. Additional details available after email contact has been made.

Event Planner/Project Manager

 

Coordinate all aspects of all events by utilizing current volunteers.

Adoption Event Coordinator

 

Working as an Adoption Event Coordinator, you’ll manage all elements of off site adoption events such as Petsmart, Petsupermarket, Hollywood Feed, Petco, etc. Post/communicate weekly events and recruit Fosters to attend with the pets in their care and work with the Volunteer Coordinator to schedule volunteers to assist. Contact adoption venues to schedule adoption days. Coordinator will stay on site to assist with adoptions during the scheduled adoption event which typically runs 11-4 on Saturdays. Other days can be scheduled if possible. Must have strong people skills.

Volunteer Coordinator

 

Working as a volunteer coordinator, you’ll manage all elements of volunteering for Street Paws general volunteers, communications to volunteers regarding events, fundraising and volunteer needs of Street Paws. The role involves assessing and meeting Street Paws needs through the recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Street Paws and responsible for all of the work associated with the Street Paws operation and are therefore essential to its success.

Core capabilities of a Volunteer Coordinator: assess and plan for risk management; prepare and recruit, screen, train, supervise and recognize volunteers. Must have strong people skills.

Grant Writer

 

We are looking for a volunteer to be a dedicated Grant Writer to write grant proposals for our organization. The Grant Writer will write coherent, organized and compelling proposals. You will apply your knowledge of fundraising methods and plans to reach income goals. You will collaborate with team members in the organization to assist with other fundraising projects, and develop relationships with key stakeholders.

To ensure success you need to write well, have proficient knowledge of fundraising methods and be committed to the mission you are representing. Preferred applicants are deadline-driven team players with outstanding multitasking abilities. Must be proficient with measuring and reaching income goals, Word, Excel, excellent knowledge of fundraising information sources, excellent communication skills verbally and written, strong people skills, excellent organisational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
